68 AN ACT
79 relating to the inclusion of information relating to human
810 trafficking prevention in the curriculum of driver education and
911 driving safety courses.
1012 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1113 SECTION 1. This Act shall be known as the Julia Wells Act.
1214 SECTION 2. Subchapter C, Chapter 1001, Education Code, is
1315 amended by adding Section 1001.1021 to read as follows:
1416 Sec. 1001.1021. HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION INFORMATION.
1517 (a) The commission by rule shall require that information relating
1618 to human trafficking prevention be included in the curriculum of
1719 any driver education course or driving safety course.
1820 (b) In developing rules under this section, the commission
1921 shall consult with the human trafficking prevention coordinating
2022 council established under Section 402.034, Government Code.
2123 SECTION 3. (a) Not later than May 1, 2022, the Texas
2224 Commission of Licensing and Regulation shall adopt the rules
2325 required by Section 1001.1021, Education Code, as added by this
2426 Act.
2527 (b) Each driver education course or driving safety course
2628 held on or after September 1, 2022, must include in the course
2729 curriculum the information required by Section 1001.1021,
2830 Education Code, as added by this Act.
2931 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
