65 CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
76 WHEREAS, Each day, countless people are exposed to sexually
87 explicit content through a wide range of media, and these consumers
98 are often unaware of the health risks posed by such material; and
109 WHEREAS, Children are encountering pornography before their
1110 teens, and this early exposure may lead to low self-esteem and body
1211 image disorders and an increased desire to engage in risky sexual
1312 behavior; and
1413 WHEREAS, Besides promoting unhealthy sexual expectations,
1514 the adult entertainment industry produces media that objectify
1615 women and children as well as depict rape and abuse; by associating
1716 violence with sexual gratification, these materials perpetuate the
1817 demand for sex trafficking, prostitution, child pornography, and
1918 sexual abuse images; and
2019 WHEREAS, Pornography has also been linked to such detrimental
2120 health effects as brain development complications, emotional and
2221 medical afflictions, the inability to form and maintain intimate
2322 relationships, and sexual addiction; these dangers not only affect
2423 people on an individual level but also contribute to the
2524 degradation of the family unit, frequently leading to marital
2625 dissatisfaction and infidelity; and
2726 WHEREAS, The ubiquity of pornography has resulted in a host
2827 of societal problems and potentially negative health effects, and
2928 it is of paramount importance that our leaders tackle this critical
3029 public health issue; now, therefore, be it
3130 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
3231 hereby recognize that pornography is a public health hazard; and,
3332 be it further
3433 RESOLVED, That the Texas House of Representatives and Senate
3534 recognize the need for education, prevention, research, and policy
3635 changes to address the harmful influence and consequences of
3736 pornography.
