56 WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
67 meaningful accomplishments remain to comfort the family and many
78 friends of Stephen Henry Perry of Austin, who passed away on May 11,
89 2020, at the age of 62; and
910 WHEREAS, The son of Gayle and O. V. Perry, Steve Perry was
1011 born in Lubbock on August 28, 1957, and he grew up with a sister,
1112 Camille; he attended Texas Tech University and completed his
1213 bachelor's degree in government at The University of Texas at
1314 Austin; after working at the Capitol for then-state representative
1415 George Pierce, he was hired by Texaco as a state government affairs
1516 representative; he went on to lead government affairs for Altura
1617 Energy and then represented Texaco again as head of his own firm,
1718 Perry and Associates; following Texaco's merger with the Chevron
1819 Corporation in 2004, he became Chevron's state government affairs
1920 manager and guided a team advocating for the company in New Mexico,
2021 Colorado, and Oklahoma, as well as Texas; and
2122 WHEREAS, Mr. Perry took on leadership roles in charitable
2223 endeavors, as well as trade associations; his affable manner and
2324 thoughtful, caring nature brought him numerous warm friendships in
2425 professional circles and with people he met from all walks of life;
2526 an attentive listener, he always stood ready to provide
2627 encouragement, consolation, or sage advice; following the death of
2728 his sister, he stepped in to help his niece, Katherine, and he
2829 continued to play a significant role in her life; he was an
2930 enthusiastic music fan and patron, and he loved to include friends
3031 in his fun at music festivals, Austin City Limits tapings, the
3132 opera, and other events; in addition, he was an avid golfer for more
3233 than 45 years; and
3334 WHEREAS, Steve Perry possessed a generosity of spirit that
3435 expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of all
3536 who were fortunate enough to share in his love and friendship; now,
3637 therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
3839 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Stephen Henry Perry and extend
3940 sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4243 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
4344 Stephen Henry Perry.
