| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day is held each year at |

| 9 | 9 | | real-world skills to compete in the workforce; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Similar to the signing day celebrations that are |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | held when young athletes declare which college they will attend, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | CTE Letter of Intent Signing Day recognizes the important |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | commitment that career and technical education students are making |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | by undertaking these studies; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Around 12.5 million American high school and college |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | students are enrolled in CTE courses, which encompass a variety of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | occupational fields, including agriculture, construction, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | manufacturing, computer science, and health care; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, In addition to gaining specific career-related |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | knowledge, participants in CTE programs learn such essential skills |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | as time management, problem solving, and critical thinking, which |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | better prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | workplace; these programs motivate and engage students by providing |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | hands-on activities in which they can further their expertise and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | interact with community members, potential employers, and students |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and teachers who share their vocational interests; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Career and technical education is offering a path to |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | success in the 21st-century economy while helping to address the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | urgent need for skilled labor in high-demand industries, and it is |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | enabling numerous Texans to secure gainful employment and lead |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | productive, fulfilling lives; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | hereby designate the first Friday in May as Career and Technical |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Education Letter of Intent Signing Day; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That, in accordance with the provisions of Section |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | 391.004(d), Government Code, this designation remain in effect |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | until the 10th anniversary of the date that this resolution is |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | finally passed by the legislature. |
