56 WHEREAS, Family, friends, and colleagues will forever
67 cherish their memories of Dewey Douglas Stockbridge of Alpine, who
78 died on August 8, 2020, at the age of 36; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Fredericksburg on November 16, 1983, to
910 Randy and Connie Stockbridge, Dewey Stockbridge grew up with the
1011 companionship of a sister, Leslie; he excelled as both a student and
1112 as a multi-sport athlete at Mason High School, where he played on
1213 the football, basketball, and baseball teams and developed his
1314 lifelong passion for golf; after graduating from Mason High in
1415 2002, he attended Texas A&M University and earned his degree in
1516 wildlife and fisheries sciences in 2006; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Stockbridge first worked as a wildlife
1718 technician for the Black Gap Wildlife Management Area; there, he
1819 was involved in habitat restoration and conservation efforts for
1920 desert bighorn sheep in Far West Texas, a cause that became very
2021 dear to his heart; after a few years, he was promoted to the
2122 position of wildlife biologist at Black Gap, and he continued in
2223 that role at the Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area, which
2324 spans 23,000 acres south of Alpine; highly respected for his work,
2425 he was conducting aerial surveys for desert bighorn sheep at Black
2526 Gap when he died in a helicopter crash along with two other TPWD
2627 employees on August 8, 2020; and
2728 WHEREAS, Active in many organizations, Mr. Stockbridge held
2829 membership in the Texas Wildlife Association, the Wild Sheep
2930 Foundation, the Mule Deer Foundation, the Dallas and Houston Safari
3031 Clubs, Ducks Unlimited, the Texas Bighorn Society, and the Desert
3132 Bighorn Council; he was also a congregant of the First United
3233 Methodist Church of Mason; and
3334 WHEREAS, Mr. Stockbridge shared a rewarding relationship
3435 with his wife, Shannon, and he took great pride in their son,
3536 Jameson, and daughter, London; he instilled in his children his
3637 love of the outdoors and his respect for nature, and he enjoyed
3738 going on hunting and fishing trips with family and friends; and
3839 WHEREAS, Although Dewey Stockbridge's life ended far too
3940 soon, he has left behind a legacy through his tireless commitment to
4041 habitat preservation and wildlife stewardship, and he will forever
4142 be remembered with admiration and affection by all those who were
4243 fortunate enough to know him; now, therefore, be it
4344 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
4445 hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dewey Douglas Stockbridge and
4546 extend heartfelt condolences to the members of his family: to his
4647 wife, Shannon Stockbridge; to his children, Jameson and London
4748 Stockbridge; to his parents, Randy and Connie Stockbridge; to his
4849 sister, Leslie Becker, and her husband, Travis; to his niece,
4950 Aubrey Joy Becker; and to his many other relatives and friends; and,
5051 be it further
5152 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5253 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5354 Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
5455 Dewey Stockbridge.
