H.R. No. 1747 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Harmony School of Science-Houston has been named a 2021 National School of Character by Character.org; and WHEREAS, The national nonprofit Character.org certifies schools and school districts that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development that in turn has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior, and school climate; its annual Schools of Character designations honor institutions that have exemplified Character.org's 11 Principles Framework, which includes providing students with opportunities for moral action, promoting a sense of shared leadership, and engaging families and communities; and WHEREAS, Part of a statewide public charter school system that serves youth in prekindergarten through the 12th grade, HSS-Houston is one of only 47 campuses from across the nation to be chosen as a 2021 National School of Character; alongside a curriculum focused on science, technology, engineering, and math, the school teaches character education, which encourages students to develop and practice such traits as respect, responsibility, honesty, and empathy; and WHEREAS, By creating a learning environment that emphasizes positive values and personal growth, HSS-Houston is providing students with important instruction that will serve them well throughout their lives, and the school's commitment to this endeavor is truly commendable; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Harmony School of Science-Houston on its designation as a 2021 National School of Character by Character.org and extend to its students, staff, and parents sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
