| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Dominga Garza and adoptive parents |

| 9 | 10 | | Nicolas and Benita Gomez, Luis Gomez was born on August 2, 1947, in |

| 10 | 11 | | Comales, Tamaulipas, Mexico; he graduated from Rio Grande City High |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | School in 1966 and attended the McAllen Business School and Pan |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | American College; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Gomez |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and went on to serve for 14 years; |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | in his civilian life, he worked for an appliance store, two |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | distributing companies, and the Rio Grande City Consolidated |

| 17 | 18 | | Independent School District before embarking on a career with the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | American National Insurance Company that spanned more than two |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | decades; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Gomez enjoyed the love and |

| 21 | 22 | | support of his wife, the former Maria Edelmira Olivarez, and he took |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | great pride in their children, Laura, Luis, Mario, and Jorge, and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | their eight grandchildren; and |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Charming and funny, Luis Gomez lived a full and |

| 25 | 26 | | generous life, and he leaves behind a record of service that his |

| 26 | 27 | | loved ones can remember with pride; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
