| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of Gary Gene Charles Johnston of Bandera on December 15, |

| 7 | 8 | | 2020, at the age of 80; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of Magnus and Louise Johnston, Gary Johnston |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | was born on August 10, 1940, in San Antonio; he grew up on his |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | family's ranch in Bandera with the companionship of his sister, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Kathy, and his brother, William; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston enjoyed a rewarding career with the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Texas Department of Transportation that spanned three decades; |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | after his retirement from TxDOT, he worked for another 30 years as a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | real estate broker and operated his own firm in Bandera; as a |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | rancher, he helped to ensure that the Johnston Family Farm was added |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | to the Texas Family Land Heritage Registry; along the way, he |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | attended San Antonio College and earned two degrees, the first in |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | business and the second in real estate management; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Highly engaged in his community, Mr. Johnston |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | contributed his time and talents to numerous organizations, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | including the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce and the Bandera |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | ISD Education Foundation, and he was active with the Bandera County |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Republican party; moreover, he was a lifelong congregant of |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston benefited from the love and support of |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | his wife, Claire Beecroft Johnston, who preceded him in death, and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | of Patricia Jeane Vawter Johnston Renton, with whom he raised three |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | children, Jordan, Daria, and Marcus; through the years, he had the |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | pleasure of seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | four great-grandchildren; in his leisure time, he enjoyed reading |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | and traveling with his close friend, Angelika Inzanti; and |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, While the passing of Gary Johnston brings |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | immeasurable sorrow to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy |

| 35 | 36 | | that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, |

| 36 | 37 | | therefore, be it |

| 37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gary Gene Charles |

| 39 | 40 | | Johnston and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family |

| 40 | 41 | | and to his many friends; and, be it further |
