45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Gary Gene Charles Johnston of Bandera on December 15,
78 2020, at the age of 80; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Magnus and Louise Johnston, Gary Johnston
910 was born on August 10, 1940, in San Antonio; he grew up on his
1011 family's ranch in Bandera with the companionship of his sister,
1112 Kathy, and his brother, William; and
1213 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston enjoyed a rewarding career with the
1314 Texas Department of Transportation that spanned three decades;
1415 after his retirement from TxDOT, he worked for another 30 years as a
1516 real estate broker and operated his own firm in Bandera; as a
1617 rancher, he helped to ensure that the Johnston Family Farm was added
1718 to the Texas Family Land Heritage Registry; along the way, he
1819 attended San Antonio College and earned two degrees, the first in
1920 business and the second in real estate management; and
2021 WHEREAS, Highly engaged in his community, Mr. Johnston
2122 contributed his time and talents to numerous organizations,
2223 including the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce and the Bandera
2324 ISD Education Foundation, and he was active with the Bandera County
2425 Republican party; moreover, he was a lifelong congregant of
2526 St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston benefited from the love and support of
2728 his wife, Claire Beecroft Johnston, who preceded him in death, and
2829 of Patricia Jeane Vawter Johnston Renton, with whom he raised three
2930 children, Jordan, Daria, and Marcus; through the years, he had the
3031 pleasure of seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and
3132 four great-grandchildren; in his leisure time, he enjoyed reading
3233 and traveling with his close friend, Angelika Inzanti; and
3334 WHEREAS, While the passing of Gary Johnston brings
3435 immeasurable sorrow to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy
3536 that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now,
3637 therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gary Gene Charles
3940 Johnston and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family
4041 and to his many friends; and, be it further
4142 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4243 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4344 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gary Gene
4445 Charles Johnston.
