H.R. No. 21 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Gary Gene Charles Johnston of Bandera on December 15, 2020, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, The son of Magnus and Louise Johnston, Gary Johnston was born on August 10, 1940, in San Antonio; he grew up on his family's ranch in Bandera with the companionship of his sister, Kathy, and his brother, William; and WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston enjoyed a rewarding career with the Texas Department of Transportation that spanned three decades; after his retirement from TxDOT, he worked for another 30 years as a real estate broker and operated his own firm in Bandera; as a rancher, he helped to ensure that the Johnston Family Farm was added to the Texas Family Land Heritage Registry; along the way, he attended San Antonio College and earned two degrees, the first in business and the second in real estate management; and WHEREAS, Highly engaged in his community, Mr. Johnston contributed his time and talents to numerous organizations, including the Bandera County Chamber of Commerce and the Bandera ISD Education Foundation, and he was active with the Bandera County Republican party; moreover, he was a lifelong congregant of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Bandera; and WHEREAS, Mr. Johnston benefited from the love and support of his wife, Claire Beecroft Johnston, who preceded him in death, and of Patricia Jeane Vawter Johnston Renton, with whom he raised three children, Jordan, Daria, and Marcus; through the years, he had the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; in his leisure time, he enjoyed reading and traveling with his close friend, Angelika Inzanti; and WHEREAS, While the passing of Gary Johnston brings immeasurable sorrow to his loved ones, he leaves behind a legacy that will long be treasured by all those who held him dear; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Gary Gene Charles Johnston and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family and to his many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Gary Gene Charles Johnston.
