5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Residents of DeSoto lost two respected members of |

7 | 8 | | James Zander, 68, and his wife, Linda Zander, 73, on December 21, |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 1, 1947, Linda Zander pursued a |

10 | 11 | | career as an interior designer before becoming the chief financial |
---|
11 | 12 | | officer of her husband's insurance firm, James Zander & Associates; |
---|
12 | 13 | | she was a member of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce Board of |
---|
13 | 14 | | Directors, chair of the Chamber of Commerce Gala, and former |
---|
14 | 15 | | president of Keep DeSoto Beautiful; she was also active in the Best |
---|
15 | 16 | | Southwest Chamber, Leadership Southwest, and the DeSoto Arts |
---|
16 | 17 | | Commission; moreover, she was named the Bobby Wattle DeSoto Chamber |

17 | 18 | | of Commerce Citizen of the Year, and in 2017, she and Mr. Zander |
---|
18 | 19 | | were presented with the DeSoto Eagle; and |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, James Zander was born on April 23, 1952; he was a |

20 | 21 | | graduate of the University of New Haven, Ohio University, and the |

21 | 22 | | American College of Financial Services, and in 1983, he founded |

22 | 23 | | James Zander & Associates; a leader in his community, he served on |
---|
23 | 24 | | the DeSoto City Council, the DeSoto Economic Development |
---|
24 | 25 | | Corporation Board, and the boards of the DeSoto ISD Education |
---|
25 | 26 | | Foundation and DeSoto Dining and Dialogue; he also contributed his |
---|
26 | 27 | | time and talents to several other civic organizations, including |
---|
27 | 28 | | the Dallas County ACA Coalition and the Community Emergency |
---|
28 | 29 | | Response Team; a member of the University of New Haven Board of |
---|
29 | 30 | | Governors, he was recognized by the school with a Distinguished |
---|
30 | 31 | | Alumni Award in 2006 and an honorary doctorate in 2018; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed couple were joined in matrimony on |
---|
32 | 33 | | July 8, 2006; they were valued congregants of Disciple Central |
---|
33 | 34 | | Community Church, and they delighted in time spent with their many |
---|
34 | 35 | | friends and loved ones; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, James and Linda Zander shared a rich and purposeful |
---|
36 | 37 | | life together, and they leave behind a legacy of devotion to their |

37 | 38 | | community that will be admired for many years to come; now, |

38 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of James and Linda |

41 | 42 | | Zander and extend deepest sympathy to all who mourn their passing; |
