H.R. No. 314
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Early College High School in Farmers Branch has been
named a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School, one of the most
prestigious designations an elementary or secondary school in the
United States can receive; and
WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was created
by the U.S. Department of Education in 1982 to recognize campuses
that have demonstrated superior academic performance or made
notable progress in improving outcomes among economically
disadvantaged students; Early College High was one of only 367
public and private schools nationwide and 28 schools in Texas to
have earned this impressive honor in 2020; and
WHEREAS, Early College High School, which is housed on Dallas
College's Brookhaven Campus, enrolls approximately 340 students in
grades 9 through 12; as part of the Texas High School Project, ECHS
students have the opportunity to earn an associate degree from
Dallas College while working toward their high school diploma; last
year, over 80 percent of the school's graduating class received an
associate of arts or science degree, and graduating seniors were
awarded a collective sum of more than $8 million in scholarship
funds; moreover, ECHS was previously named a National Blue Ribbon
School in 2014; and
WHEREAS, Through hard work and perseverance, the teachers and
students of Early College High School have established a record of
scholastic excellence, and their outstanding efforts have been duly
recognized with the Blue Ribbon School award; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Early College High School in
Farmers Branch on its selection as a 2020 National Blue Ribbon
School by the U.S. Department of Education and extend to all those
involved with the school sincere best wishes for the future; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
