45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Mother's Day is among the most cherished
67 celebrations in Mexican culture, and many Texans of Mexican descent
78 are observing El Día de las Madres on May 10, 2021; and
89 WHEREAS, Inspired by their neighbors to the north, Mexicans
910 began observing a Mother's Day holiday in the early part of the 20th
1011 century; the celebrations of Mother's Day in Mexico and in the
1112 United States bear many similarities, with children often
1213 presenting their mothers with gifts of candy, cards, or flowers and
1314 treating them to a special lunch or dinner; and
1415 WHEREAS, In some Mexican cities, it is customary for children
1516 to begin the day by serenading their mothers at their bedside, and
1617 some even engage mariachi bands to accompany them; many families go
1718 on to attend a special mass and community breakfast; regardless of
1819 the traditions that families embrace, the greatest gift of all is
1920 the precious time spent with loved ones; and
2021 WHEREAS, The bond of affection shared between mother and
2122 child is eternal, and Mother's Day offers a welcome opportunity for
2223 all to express gratitude to their mothers for the unconditional
2324 love, support, and wisdom that they have given them throughout
2425 their lives; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby commemorate Mexican Mother's Day on May 10,
2728 2021, and extend warmest best wishes to the Texas families who are
2829 taking part in this treasured occasion.
