46 AN ACT
57 relating to notice regarding the availability to public school
68 students of college credit and work-based education programs and
79 subsidies for fees paid to take certain advanced placement tests.
810 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
911 SECTION 1. The heading to Section 28.010, Education Code,
1012 is amended to read as follows:
1113 Sec. 28.010. NOTIFICATION REGARDING COLLEGE CREDIT AND
1214 WORK-BASED EDUCATION PROGRAMS.
1315 SECTION 2. Section 28.010(a), Education Code, is amended to
1416 read as follows:
1517 (a) Each school year, a school district shall notify the
1618 parent of each district student enrolled in grade nine or above of:
1719 (1) the availability of:
1820 (A) programs in the district under which a
1921 student may earn college credit, including advanced placement
2022 programs, dual credit programs, joint high school and college
2123 credit programs, and international baccalaureate programs;
2224 (B) career and technology education programs or
2325 other work-based education programs in the district, including any
2426 internship, externship, or apprenticeship programs or a P-TECH
2527 program under Subchapter N, Chapter 29; and
2628 (C) subsidies based on financial need available
2729 for fees paid to take college advanced placement tests or
2830 international baccalaureate examinations under Section 28.054; and
2931 (2) the qualifications for enrolling in programs
3032 described by Subdivision (1)(A) or (B).
3133 SECTION 3. This Act applies beginning with the 2021-2022
3234 school year.
3335 SECTION 4. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
3436 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
3537 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
3638 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
3739 Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
