7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Section 87.005, Election Code, is amended to |
---|
9 | 11 | | read as follows: |
---|
10 | 12 | | Sec. 87.005. COMPENSATION OF MEMBERS. (a) Members of the |
---|
11 | 13 | | early voting ballot board are entitled to the same compensation as |
---|
12 | 14 | | presiding election judges, except that: |
---|
13 | 15 | | (1) the presiding judge may be compensated at a higher |
---|
14 | 16 | | rate at the discretion of the appropriate authority; and |
---|
15 | 17 | | (2) if [as provided by Subsection (b). |
---|
16 | 18 | | [(b) If] the board concludes its work in less than 10 hours, |
---|
17 | 19 | | the members may be paid greater compensation than that regularly |
---|
18 | 20 | | payable for the amount of time worked, but not to exceed the amount |
---|
19 | 21 | | payable for 10 hours' work. |
---|
20 | 22 | | (b) [(c)] Precinct officers serving as board members under |
---|
21 | 23 | | Section 87.004 may not be compensated for both positions. |
---|
22 | 24 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
