| 7 | 9 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 8 | 10 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 9 | 11 | | amended by adding Section 411.033 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 10 | 12 | | Sec. 411.033. CERTAIN EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLES. The |
|---|
| 11 | 13 | | department shall equip all motor vehicles used by officers of the |
|---|
| 12 | 14 | | Texas Highway Patrol in discharging the officers' official duties |
|---|
| 13 | 15 | | with bullet-resistant windshields. |
|---|
| 14 | 16 | | SECTION 2. The Department of Public Safety is required to |
|---|
| 15 | 17 | | implement a provision of this Act only if the legislature |
|---|
| 16 | 18 | | appropriates money specifically for that purpose. If the |
|---|
| 17 | 19 | | legislature does not appropriate money specifically for that |
|---|
| 18 | 20 | | purpose, the Department of Public Safety may, but is not required |
|---|
| 19 | 21 | | to, implement a provision of this Act using other appropriations |
|---|
| 20 | 22 | | available for that purpose. |
|---|
| 21 | 23 | | SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|---|
| 22 | 24 | | a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|---|
| 23 | 25 | | provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|---|
| 24 | 26 | | Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|---|
| 25 | 27 | | Act takes effect September 1, 2021. |
