 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to disclosure to legislators of certain attorney grievance
 information.
 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
 SECTION 1.  Section 81.0885, Government Code, is amended by
 amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
 follows:
 (a)  All types of information, proceedings, hearing
 transcripts, and statements presented to the ombudsman are
 confidential and may not be disclosed to any person other than the
 chief disciplinary counsel unless:
 (1)  disclosure is ordered by a court; or
 (2)  a member of the legislature requests disclosure
 and the complainant consents to disclosure.
 (c)  A member of the legislature to whom information,
 proceedings, hearing transcripts, or statements presented to the
 ombudsman are disclosed under Subsection (a) may use the
 information, proceedings, hearing transcripts, or statements only
 in the performance of a power or duty associated with the member's
 office.
 SECTION 2.  Section 81.0885, Government Code, as amended by
 this Act, applies only to a disclosure of information, proceedings,
 hearing transcripts, and statements presented to the ombudsman for
 the attorney discipline system of the State Bar of Texas that occurs
 on or after the effective date of this Act.
 SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2021.
