56 WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was
67 historically crucial to the early survival of the great State of
78 Texas; and
89 WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was an
910 essential tool in the defeat of the Mexican army during the
1011 Mexican-American War to reclaim Texas, the 28th state of the Union;

1213 WHEREAS, The co-inventor of the original 1847 Colt Walker
1314 pistol, Samuel Walker, was a captain in the Texas Rangers, the first
1415 state police agency in the country; and
1516 WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was America's
1617 first pistol to hold six rounds, otherwise known as a
1718 "six-shooter"; and
1819 WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol is still the
1920 most powerful black powder pistol in existence; now, therefore, be
2021 it
2122 RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
2223 hereby recognize the original 1847 Colt Walker pistol as the
2324 official handgun of the State of Texas.
