5	6		WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was
6	7		historically crucial to the early survival of the great State of
7	8		Texas; and
8	9		WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was an
9	10		essential tool in the defeat of the Mexican army during the
10	11		Mexican-American War to reclaim Texas, the 28th state of the Union;
11	12		and
12	13		WHEREAS, The co-inventor of the original 1847 Colt Walker
13	14		pistol, Samuel Walker, was a captain in the Texas Rangers, the first
14	15		state police agency in the country; and
15	16		WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol was America's
16	17		first pistol to hold six rounds, otherwise known as a
17	18		"six-shooter"; and
18	19		WHEREAS, The original 1847 Colt Walker pistol is still the
19	20		most powerful black powder pistol in existence; now, therefore, be
20	21		it
21	22		RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas
22	23		hereby recognize the original 1847 Colt Walker pistol as the
23	24		official handgun of the State of Texas.
