55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Tonya McCoy, an
77 esteemed member of the community who recently passed away after a
88 life of generous civic service; and
99 WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy was an inspiration to all who knew her
1010 through her wisdom, her kindness, and her dedication to the
1111 principles of equality and social justice; and
1212 WHEREAS, Tonya was an active volunteer for the Democratic
1313 Party, and she faithfully supported the party through her
1414 extensive service at the local, state, and national levels; and
1515 WHEREAS, She assisted in numerous elections as a
1616 campaigner and an election clerk, and she gave generously of her
1717 time to charitable fund-raisers and to such events as the Dallas
1818 Democratic Labor Day Picnic; she served as a canvassing field
1919 leader during President Barack Obama's 2008 presidential
2020 campaign, and in 2008, 2012, and 2016, she was a delegate to both
2121 the 23rd Senatorial District Convention and the Texas Democratic
2222 Convention; and
2323 WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy advocated positive change for Texas
2424 communities through her spirit of service and her active support
2525 of Democratic Party leaders; she was a loyal friend to many, and
2626 she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by those
2727 who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
2929 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3030 family of Tonya McCoy; and, be it further
3131 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3232 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3333 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3434 memory of Tonya McCoy.
