| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Tonya McCoy, an |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | esteemed member of the community who recently passed away after a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | life of generous civic service; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy was an inspiration to all who knew her |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | through her wisdom, her kindness, and her dedication to the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | principles of equality and social justice; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Tonya was an active volunteer for the Democratic |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Party, and she faithfully supported the party through her |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | extensive service at the local, state, and national levels; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, She assisted in numerous elections as a |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | campaigner and an election clerk, and she gave generously of her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | time to charitable fund-raisers and to such events as the Dallas |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Democratic Labor Day Picnic; she served as a canvassing field |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | leader during President Barack Obama's 2008 presidential |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | campaign, and in 2008, 2012, and 2016, she was a delegate to both |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the 23rd Senatorial District Convention and the Texas Democratic |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Convention; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Tonya McCoy advocated positive change for Texas |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | communities through her spirit of service and her active support |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Democratic Party leaders; she was a loyal friend to many, and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | she leaves behind memories that will long be cherished by those |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | family of Tonya McCoy; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
