SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 155 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, on the occasion of its 75th anniversary, which was celebrated with a virtual banquet on February 27, 2021; and WHEREAS, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority is a national collegiate sorority that was incorporated in 1922; through the years, it has served as a home for thousands of collegiate and professional women looking for a place to share inspiring life experiences, learn new things, and uplift the community through sisterhood, scholarship, and service; and WHEREAS, The Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter was established on February 2, 1946; since its founding, the chapter has initiated and sustained a wide range of community service efforts for the Austin area; the chapter's initiatives include hosting a biennial debutante ball, numerous voter registration drives, and events in recognition of local educators; and WHEREAS, Through the years, the chapter has given special attention to issues affecting young people and education, and its members have organized school supply and shoe drives to benefit area children; and WHEREAS, For 75 years, the Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter has had a positive impact on the fabric of life in Austin, and it is truly fitting that the chapter receive special recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend the Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated, on 75 years of exceptional service to the Austin community and extend to its members best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the chapter as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
