                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 176
 WHEREAS, The 104th birthday of an esteemed Texan is truly
 cause for celebration, and Georgia Raven Rosborough of Marshall
 reached that impressive milestone on February 22, 2021; and
 WHEREAS, Born in 1917 in the Shady Grove community near
 Marshall, Mrs. Rosborough grew up on a farm with two sisters and
 three brothers, learning the value of hard work at an early age;
 she was the valedictorian of her seventh-grade class, after which
 she had to leave school to help support her family by making
 quilts with her mother and working on the family farm; and
 WHEREAS, After marrying, Mrs. Rosborough farmed with her
 husband, raising crops as well as chickens, cows, and hogs, and
 she continued to maintain the farm with her sons after her
 husband's death in 1965; three years later, she found employment
 at a nursing home, where she worked in the laundry; she married
 again in 1975, and in 1992, she retired from the nursing home at
 the age of 75; and
 WHEREAS, In retirement, Mrs. Rosborough took up crafts and
 began making refrigerator magnets; she eventually returned to
 sewing quilts, taking orders and shipping her creations around
 the world; today she enjoys reading and playing dominos, and she
 continues to attend Shady Grove Christian Methodist Episcopal
 Church in Marshall when she can; and
 WHEREAS, Mrs. Rosborough is the proud matriarch of a
 family that has grown to include 12 children along with three
 additional generations; on the occasion of her 100th birthday in
 2017, a book about her life, Georgia, was published, written by
 one of her granddaughters and illustrated by another, and on
 February 27, 2021, her 104th was celebrated with a socially
 distanced drive-by parade in Marshall; and
 WHEREAS, The granddaughter of a former slave, Georgia
 Rosborough has lived through a panorama of change, and she has
 met life's challenges and opportunities with dignity and grace,
 earning the deep admiration of all who are privileged to know
 her; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
 Legislature, hereby congratulate Georgia Raven Rosborough on her
 104th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
 continued happiness; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
 prepared for Mrs. Rosborough as an expression of high regard from
 the Texas Senate.
