55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Specialist Miguel Villalon, an esteemed
77 young serviceman, who died January 11, 2020, at the age of 21; and
88 WHEREAS, Miguel Villalon was born on December 31, 1998, to
99 Jesus and Olivia Villalon; he was the brother of the late Jesus
1010 Villalon Jr. and of Arnoldo and Antonio Fernandez; he was a man of
1111 courage and generosity, and he served with distinction as a
1212 member of the United States Army; and
1313 WHEREAS, Miguel joined the army in 2018, and he completed
1414 basic combat training and advanced individual training at Fort
1515 Leonard Wood in Missouri; he then was stationed at Fort Bragg,
1616 where he faithfully served as a combat engineer; and
1717 WHEREAS, During his two years of service, Specialist
1818 Villalon was deployed to Afghanistan, and he distinguished
1919 himself for bravery in the line of duty; his decorations include
2020 a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star Medal, an Army Commendation Medal,
2121 an Army Achievement Medal, and a Combat Action Badge; and
2222 WHEREAS, Specialist Miguel Villalon embodied the highest
2323 standards of courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty; he was a
2424 treasured member of his community, and he will long be remembered
2525 with profound respect and admiration by all who were privileged
2626 to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
2727 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
2828 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
2929 family of Miguel Villalon; and, be it further
3030 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3131 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3232 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3333 memory of Miguel Villalon.
