5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr., who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | September 11, 2020, at the age of 75; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Juan Holguin was born on March 31, 1945, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Juarez, Mexico; he moved with his family to El Paso in 1954, and |
---|
10 | 10 | | he graduated from El Paso High School; and |
---|
11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He harvested crops while serving as a farmworker |
---|
12 | 12 | | in California before entering military service in 1965 as a |
---|
13 | 13 | | member of the United States Army; he received medical training |
---|
14 | 14 | | while serving stateside and in South Korea, and he was discharged |
---|
15 | 15 | | in 1971; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career |
---|
17 | 17 | | as a nursing assistant at the William Beaumont Army Medical |
---|
18 | 18 | | Center at Fort Bliss and at the clinic at Bergstrom Air Force Base |
---|
19 | 19 | | in Austin; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, He married Maria Alvarado in 1968, and they were |
---|
21 | 21 | | blessed with three sons, Juan Holguin Jr., Francisco Holguin, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | Eduardo Holguin; they were a source of much pride and joy for him, |
---|
23 | 23 | | and he was a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, He earned his United States citizenship in 1969, |
---|
25 | 25 | | and he was seriously interested in politics and the political |
---|
26 | 26 | | process; he avidly watched the news every day and took part in a |
---|
27 | 27 | | number of community activities; and |
---|
28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, He was a man of integrity and generosity who |
---|
29 | 29 | | always accepted others without judgment, and he was a |
---|
30 | 30 | | bird-watcher who took great joy in the beauty of nature; he was |
---|
31 | 31 | | devoted to his family and longtime companion, and he leaves |
---|
32 | 32 | | behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were |
---|
33 | 33 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
---|
36 | 36 | | family of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
38 | 38 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
39 | 39 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
40 | 40 | | memory of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr. |
