44 Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr., who died
77 September 11, 2020, at the age of 75; and
88 WHEREAS, Juan Holguin was born on March 31, 1945, in
99 Juarez, Mexico; he moved with his family to El Paso in 1954, and
1010 he graduated from El Paso High School; and
1111 WHEREAS, He harvested crops while serving as a farmworker
1212 in California before entering military service in 1965 as a
1313 member of the United States Army; he received medical training
1414 while serving stateside and in South Korea, and he was discharged
1515 in 1971; and
1616 WHEREAS, He went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career
1717 as a nursing assistant at the William Beaumont Army Medical
1818 Center at Fort Bliss and at the clinic at Bergstrom Air Force Base
1919 in Austin; and
2020 WHEREAS, He married Maria Alvarado in 1968, and they were
2121 blessed with three sons, Juan Holguin Jr., Francisco Holguin, and
2222 Eduardo Holguin; they were a source of much pride and joy for him,
2323 and he was a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren; and
2424 WHEREAS, He earned his United States citizenship in 1969,
2525 and he was seriously interested in politics and the political
2626 process; he avidly watched the news every day and took part in a
2727 number of community activities; and
2828 WHEREAS, He was a man of integrity and generosity who
2929 always accepted others without judgment, and he was a
3030 bird-watcher who took great joy in the beauty of nature; he was
3131 devoted to his family and longtime companion, and he leaves
3232 behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were
3333 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3535 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3636 family of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3838 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3939 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4040 memory of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.
