                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 223
 In Memory
 of
 Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr., who died
 September 11, 2020, at the age of 75; and
 WHEREAS, Juan Holguin was born on March 31, 1945, in
 Juarez, Mexico; he moved with his family to El Paso in 1954, and
 he graduated from El Paso High School; and
 WHEREAS, He harvested crops while serving as a farmworker
 in California before entering military service in 1965 as a
 member of the United States Army; he received medical training
 while serving stateside and in South Korea, and he was discharged
 in 1971; and
 WHEREAS, He went on to enjoy a long and fulfilling career
 as a nursing assistant at the William Beaumont Army Medical
 Center at Fort Bliss and at the clinic at Bergstrom Air Force Base
 in Austin; and
 WHEREAS, He married Maria Alvarado in 1968, and they were
 blessed with three sons, Juan Holguin Jr., Francisco Holguin, and
 Eduardo Holguin; they were a source of much pride and joy for him,
 and he was a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren; and
 WHEREAS, He earned his United States citizenship in 1969,
 and he was seriously interested in politics and the political
 process; he avidly watched the news every day and took part in a
 number of community activities; and
 WHEREAS, He was a man of integrity and generosity who
 always accepted others without judgment, and he was a
 bird-watcher who took great joy in the beauty of nature; he was
 devoted to his family and longtime companion, and he leaves
 behind memories that will be treasured forever by all who were
 privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
 family of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
 memory of Juan Benjamin Holguin Sr.
