| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize George McShan for his three decades of exemplary |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | service on the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | District Board of Trustees; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, George McShan was first elected to the board of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | trustees in 1988, and he served with distinction until his 2018 |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | retirement; he grew up attending segregated schools in East |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas, and he determined at a young age to reform that system and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | make education safe, open, and fair to all; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, During his tenure on the board, Mr. McShan was |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | known for his openness to innovation and his dedication to |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | choice, and he was instrumental in bringing transformational |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | change to the district; he played a vital role in the passage of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | bond issues that led to the construction of new facilities, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | including the High School for Health Professions, a Performing |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Arts Center, an Aquatic Center, and multiple career and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | technology academies; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The former dean of students at Texas State |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Technical College, Mr. McShan has held leadership positions in a |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | number of professional organizations, including the Texas |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Association of School Boards and the National School Boards |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Association; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and a visionary |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | administrator, George McShan served the Harlingen Consolidated |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Independent School District with integrity and wisdom, and it is |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | truly fitting that he receive special recognition; now, |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby commend George McShan on 30 years of |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | outstanding service to the community as a member of the Harlingen |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | endeavors; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
