SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 234 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize George McShan for his three decades of exemplary service on the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees; and WHEREAS, George McShan was first elected to the board of trustees in 1988, and he served with distinction until his 2018 retirement; he grew up attending segregated schools in East Texas, and he determined at a young age to reform that system and make education safe, open, and fair to all; and WHEREAS, During his tenure on the board, Mr. McShan was known for his openness to innovation and his dedication to choice, and he was instrumental in bringing transformational change to the district; he played a vital role in the passage of bond issues that led to the construction of new facilities, including the High School for Health Professions, a Performing Arts Center, an Aquatic Center, and multiple career and technology academies; and WHEREAS, The former dean of students at Texas State Technical College, Mr. McShan has held leadership positions in a number of professional organizations, including the Texas Association of School Boards and the National School Boards Association; and WHEREAS, An exemplary educator and a visionary administrator, George McShan served the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District with integrity and wisdom, and it is truly fitting that he receive special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby commend George McShan on 30 years of outstanding service to the community as a member of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
