| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Patrick Michael Bergman, who died March |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 5, 2021, at the age of 37; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Patrick Bergman was an exemplary citizen and a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | dedicated firefighter who was widely respected and admired in his |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | community for his exceptional achievements and his tireless |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | commitment to public service; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Patrick was born on December 31, 1983, in Austin, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and throughout his childhood, he dreamed of becoming a |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | firefighter; he became a volunteer firefighter, and after his |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | graduation from the Austin Community College Fire Academy, his |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | dream became a reality when he was hired by the Killeen Fire |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Department in 2005; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished 15-year |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | career with the department, he carried out his duties |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | courageously, and he expanded his focus beyond firefighting to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | undertake additional roles in community service; he became a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | paramedic, earned multiple fire instructor certifications, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | served on the Honor Guard, and taught at the Killeen Fire |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Academy; his awards included Dispatcher of the Year in 2012 and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | 2013 and Firefighter of the Year in 2015; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, He recognized the unique hazards of firefighting |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | duty, and he became active in the Firefighter Cancer Support |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Network; he was a member of Vista Community Church, where he |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | served on the Host team; and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Patrick was a man of honor, integrity, and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | determination, and he demonstrated great courage in the face of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | his illness; he was a source of inspiration to his family and |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | friends, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | family of Patrick Michael Bergman; and, be it further |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | memory of Patrick Bergman. |
