SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 293
In Memory
of
Patrick Michael Bergman
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
commemorates the life of Patrick Michael Bergman, who died March
5, 2021, at the age of 37; and
WHEREAS, Patrick Bergman was an exemplary citizen and a
dedicated firefighter who was widely respected and admired in his
community for his exceptional achievements and his tireless
commitment to public service; and
WHEREAS, Patrick was born on December 31, 1983, in Austin,
and throughout his childhood, he dreamed of becoming a
firefighter; he became a volunteer firefighter, and after his
graduation from the Austin Community College Fire Academy, his
dream became a reality when he was hired by the Killeen Fire
Department in 2005; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished 15-year
career with the department, he carried out his duties
courageously, and he expanded his focus beyond firefighting to
undertake additional roles in community service; he became a
paramedic, earned multiple fire instructor certifications,
served on the Honor Guard, and taught at the Killeen Fire
Academy; his awards included Dispatcher of the Year in 2012 and
2013 and Firefighter of the Year in 2015; and
WHEREAS, He recognized the unique hazards of firefighting
duty, and he became active in the Firefighter Cancer Support
Network; he was a member of Vista Community Church, where he
served on the Host team; and
WHEREAS, Patrick was a man of honor, integrity, and
determination, and he demonstrated great courage in the face of
his illness; he was a source of inspiration to his family and
friends, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by all who were privileged to share in his life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
family of Patrick Michael Bergman; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
memory of Patrick Bergman.
