55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Fernando Daniel
77 Cuellar, an esteemed veteran who died January 27, 2021, at the
88 age of 79; and
99 WHEREAS, A native Laredoan, Fernando Cuellar was born to
1010 Eliseo and Elena Cuellar on September 7, 1941; he attended Saint
1111 Joseph Academy through the eighth grade, and he earned his
1212 diploma from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio; and
1313 WHEREAS, Mr. Cuellar earned a degree in physics from Loyola
1414 University in 1963, and he began a career with the United States
1515 Air Force that same year; he was assigned to the position of
1616 weapons systems officer, and in this role he guided the
1717 navigation, ordnance control, and flight operations of the F-4D
1818 Phantom II aircraft; he served his country courageously during
1919 the Vietnam War, and he earned numerous commendations during his
2020 distinguished career in military service; he retired in 1983 with
2121 the rank of lieutenant colonel; and
2222 WHEREAS, After his retirement, Mr. Cuellar continued a
2323 life of service and contributed extensively to the Laredo Rotary
2424 Club; he was honored to have served the organization as both a
2525 club president and a district governor; and
2626 WHEREAS, Fernando Cuellar was a gifted writer and speaker,
2727 a lifelong learner, and a devoted servant of the community; he
2828 leaves behind memories that will long be treasured by all who
2929 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3030 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3131 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
3232 family of Fernando Daniel Cuellar: his cherished wife, Angela
3333 Cuellar; his daughter, Rebecca Cuellar-Notzon; and his
3434 grandchildren, Ella and Abby Notzon; and, be it further
3535 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3636 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
3737 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
3838 memory of Fernando Cuellar.
