SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 303 In Memory of Fernando Daniel Cuellar WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Laredo in mourning the loss of Fernando Daniel Cuellar, an esteemed veteran who died January 27, 2021, at the age of 79; and WHEREAS, A native Laredoan, Fernando Cuellar was born to Eliseo and Elena Cuellar on September 7, 1941; he attended Saint Joseph Academy through the eighth grade, and he earned his diploma from Peacock Military Academy in San Antonio; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cuellar earned a degree in physics from Loyola University in 1963, and he began a career with the United States Air Force that same year; he was assigned to the position of weapons systems officer, and in this role he guided the navigation, ordnance control, and flight operations of the F-4D Phantom II aircraft; he served his country courageously during the Vietnam War, and he earned numerous commendations during his distinguished career in military service; he retired in 1983 with the rank of lieutenant colonel; and WHEREAS, After his retirement, Mr. Cuellar continued a life of service and contributed extensively to the Laredo Rotary Club; he was honored to have served the organization as both a club president and a district governor; and WHEREAS, Fernando Cuellar was a gifted writer and speaker, a lifelong learner, and a devoted servant of the community; he leaves behind memories that will long be treasured by all who were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Fernando Daniel Cuellar: his cherished wife, Angela Cuellar; his daughter, Rebecca Cuellar-Notzon; and his grandchildren, Ella and Abby Notzon; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Fernando Cuellar.
