11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 338
22 WHEREAS, The dedicated officers of the City of San Antonio
33 Telecommunications Unit have greatly contributed to the safety
44 and well-being of area residents; and
55 WHEREAS, The second-largest division of the San Antonio
66 Police Department, the Telecommunications Unit includes more
77 than 300 authorized staff members that connect civilians to
88 police services; on average, its telecommunication officers
99 respond to nearly one million calls and thousands of text
1010 messages to 911, and since 2011, the unit has been located at the
1111 Public Safety Answering Point in Brooks City Base; and
1212 WHEREAS, In times of crisis, the Telecommunications Unit
1313 has worked tirelessly to provide continuous, quality services to
1414 the people of San Antonio; during Winter Storm Uri,
1515 telecommunications officers handled triple the call volume, and
1616 these outstanding individuals have maintained necessary
1717 operations throughout the COVID-19 pandemic; moreover, they
1818 often work long shifts or sleep at the office to ensure public
1919 access to first responders during major events; and
2020 WHEREAS, The Telecommunications Unit of the San Antonio
2121 Police Department has demonstrated a lasting commitment to
2222 serving local citizens, and its officers and staff may take
2323 justifiable pride in their important work; now, therefore, be it
2424 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
2525 Legislature, hereby commend the City of San Antonio
2626 Telecommunications Unit for its outstanding service and extend
2727 to all those associated with the unit deep appreciation for their
2828 dedicated efforts; and, be it further
2929 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3030 prepared for the City of San Antonio Telecommunications Unit as
3131 an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
