5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Hilary Brumley Doran Jr., who died |
---|
7 | 7 | | December 21, 2019, at the age of 83; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Hilary Doran was born on August 16, 1936, in Del |
---|
9 | 9 | | Rio; he grew up in Del Rio and on his family's ranch in Edwards |
---|
10 | 10 | | County, and he graduated from Del Rio High School in 1954; he |
---|
11 | 11 | | earned a degree from Southwest Texas State University and served |
---|
12 | 12 | | with distinction in the United States Air Force; after his |
---|
13 | 13 | | military service, he graduated from The University of Texas |
---|
14 | 14 | | School of Law and returned to Del Rio, where he was a founding |
---|
15 | 15 | | partner of the law firm of Doran, Gulley, and Etzel; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, He was elected to represent Del Rio and Val Verde |
---|
17 | 17 | | County in the Texas House of Representatives, where he served |
---|
18 | 18 | | from 1967 to 1975 and was a member of numerous committees, |
---|
19 | 19 | | including the House Appropriations Committee; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, He served as an executive assistant from 1981 to |
---|
21 | 21 | | 1983 for Governor Bill Clements, who appointed him to the board |
---|
22 | 22 | | of regents of The University of Texas at Austin; when Governor |
---|
23 | 23 | | Clements returned as governor in 1987, Mr. Doran was named chief |
---|
24 | 24 | | of staff, an office he held for a year; the governor then |
---|
25 | 25 | | appointed him chairman of the Texas Racing Commission, a position |
---|
26 | 26 | | in which he served until 1991; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Hilary was blessed with a wonderful family; his |
---|
28 | 28 | | wife, Julia Doran; his sons, H. B. Doran III, David Doran, and |
---|
29 | 29 | | Gregory Doran; his stepdaughter, Kathy Keller; and his grandson, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Ryan Doran, were a source of much pride and joy for him; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, A man of courage, generosity, and integrity, he |
---|
32 | 32 | | was a dedicated public servant, and he leaves behind memories |
---|
33 | 33 | | that will be cherished forever by his family and many friends; |
---|
34 | 34 | | now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
36 | 36 | | Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the family of |
---|
37 | 37 | | Hilary Brumley Doran Jr.; and, be it further |
---|
38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
39 | 39 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
40 | 40 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
41 | 41 | | memory of Hilary Doran. |
