55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Dr. Robert Otto Dittmar II, who died
77 August 8, 2020, at the age of 64; and
88 WHEREAS, Bob Dittmar was born on October 18, 1955, in
99 Fredericksburg; a fifth-generation Texas rancher, he learned the
1010 value of hard work and the importance of land preservation at a
1111 young age; he followed in his father's footsteps and attended
1212 Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in veterinary
1313 medicine and was a member of the Aggies' national championship
1414 wool-judging team; and
1515 WHEREAS, He married Bernadine, his beloved wife of 41
1616 years, on August 18, 1979, and the couple was blessed with two
1717 children, Robert Otto Dittmar III and Whitney Hild; his
1818 grandchildren, Hayden, Paige, Kimber, and Levi, were a source of
1919 much pride and joy for him; and
2020 WHEREAS, He worked for a time in Weslaco and Hondo before
2121 moving his veterinary practice to Kerrville so that he could also
2222 work on his family's ranch; he became known for building close
2323 relationships with his clients and for his willingness to serve
2424 them at a moment's notice; and
2525 WHEREAS, In 2014, he was named the first state wildlife
2626 veterinarian for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which
2727 allowed him to follow his passion for natural resource
2828 conservation; he was particularly drawn to Texas bighorn sheep
2929 and pronghorn antelope relocation efforts; and
3030 WHEREAS, He held leadership positions in a wide range of
3131 professional and community organizations, including the Doss and
3232 Harper Wildlife Management Associations, the Texas Farm Bureau,
3333 the Texas Wildlife Association, the Buckskin Brigades, and the
3434 Learning Across New Dimensions in Science program; he was an
3535 active member of Zion Lutheran Church; and
3636 WHEREAS, A man of courage, generosity, and wisdom, he gave
3737 unselfishly to others, and his passion for his work and his
3838 enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be
3939 forgotten by those who were privileged to share in his life; and
4040 WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
4141 grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
4242 forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
4444 Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
4545 family of Dr. Robert Otto Dittmar II; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4747 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4848 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4949 memory of Dr. Robert Otto Dittmar II.
