| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Odilia Gallegos "Odie" Gonzales, who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | died December 31, 2017, at the age of 72; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Odie Gonzales was born on August 27, 1945, in El |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Ranchito, to Maria Rodriguez and Alfonso Gallegos, and she grew |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | up in Brownsville with her eight siblings; she became a proud |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 1963 graduate of Brownsville High School, and she was dedicated |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | to making her class reunions enjoyable and successful events; |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She married Guadalupe Gonzales Jr. in 1965, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the couple was blessed with four children, Christie, Vicente, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Alejandro, and Guadalupe; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | daily life, she was a member of Saint Eugene Catholic Church, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | where she served as a worship leader; she also served for seven |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | years as secretary for the South Central Region, District 126 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Chapter of Serra International, and she played an important role |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in the organization's support of vocations to the ministerial |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | priesthood in the Catholic Church; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, She was a woman of wisdom, kindness, and warmth, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and her generous spirit was inspirational to all who were |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | privileged to share in her life; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of Odilia |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Gallegos "Odie" Gonzales; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |

| 33 | 33 | | her family as an expression of admiration for a life well lived |

| 34 | 34 | | and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of |
