                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 509
 In Memory
 of
 Odilia Gallegos Gonzales
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
 commemorates the life of Odilia Gallegos "Odie" Gonzales, who
 died December 31, 2017, at the age of 72; and
 WHEREAS, Odie Gonzales was born on August 27, 1945, in El
 Ranchito, to Maria Rodriguez and Alfonso Gallegos, and she grew
 up in Brownsville with her eight siblings; she became a proud
 1963 graduate of Brownsville High School, and she was dedicated
 to making her class reunions enjoyable and successful events;
 WHEREAS, She married Guadalupe Gonzales Jr. in 1965, and
 the couple was blessed with four children, Christie, Vicente,
 Alejandro, and Guadalupe; and
 WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced her faith in her
 daily life, she was a member of Saint Eugene Catholic Church,
 where she served as a worship leader; she also served for seven
 years as secretary for the South Central Region, District 126
 Chapter of Serra International, and she played an important role
 in the organization's support of vocations to the ministerial
 priesthood in the Catholic Church; and
 WHEREAS, She was a woman of wisdom, kindness, and warmth,
 and her generous spirit was inspirational to all who were
 privileged to share in her life; and
 WHEREAS, She was a devoted wife and mother, and she leaves
 behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
 many friends; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life and legacy of Odilia
 Gallegos "Odie" Gonzales; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
 her family as an expression of admiration for a life well lived
 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
 Odie Gonzales.
