11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 534
22 WHEREAS, White's Funeral Homes in Parker County was
33 approved for an Official Texas Historical Marker on June 15,
44 2020; and
55 WHEREAS, In 1908, Wayman Asbury White began selling
66 coffins for Captain J. A. Kidd's general mercantile store in
77 Springtown, and after moving to Poolville in 1913, he continued
88 to specialize in selling coffins for another store; in 1914, he
99 moved to Weatherford and established an undertaking business,
1010 and he was among the first in the area to adopt progressive new
1111 practices; and
1212 WHEREAS, Mr. White built a funeral home on Houston Avenue
1313 in Weatherford in 1930, and other members of his family joined in
1414 the business, including his brother, J. Herschel White, his son,
1515 Ford White, and his son-in-law, Morris Sands; a decade later, the
1616 funeral home became one of the first to sell burial insurance
1717 policies, and in the 1950s, it was among the first to offer an
1818 air-conditioned chapel; and
1919 WHEREAS, In the years since, White's Funeral Homes has
2020 expanded to several more locations, and in 1980, it purchased the
2121 Memory Gardens of Valley Memorial Park along Mineral Wells
2222 Highway; today, the business remains in the White family, owned
2323 and operated by the grandson of W. A. White, Bob White, and his
2424 wife, Carolynn White, with the assistance of their daughter,
2525 Anita White, and their grandson, Zack Bellenger; in 2015, the
2626 business was accepted into the Texas Treasure Business Award
2727 Program, which recognizes businesses that have contributed to
2828 their community for more than 50 years; and
2929 WHEREAS, For over a century, the White family and their
3030 funeral homes have played a vital role in Parker County and the
3131 surrounding region, and recognition from the Texas Historical
3232 Commission pays well-deserved tribute to the business's long
3333 record of service; now, therefore, be it
3434 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3535 Legislature, hereby congratulate White's Funeral Homes on being
3636 approved for an Official Texas Historical Marker and extend to
3737 the White family and their employees sincere best wishes for the
3838 future; and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4040 prepared for White's Funeral Homes as an expression of high
4141 regard from the Texas Senate.
