44 Roy M. Strong Jr.
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Roy M.
66 Strong Jr. of Henderson, who died on January 4, 2021, at the age
77 of 74; and
88 WHEREAS, Roy Strong was born in Marshall on December 14,
99 1946, to Roy Strong Sr. and Nell Whitaker Grubenman, and he grew
1010 up in Tatum and in Houston with his sister, Martha; and
1111 WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Strong
1212 served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1968; returning
1313 to civilian life, he worked for a time as a parts manager for
1414 several car dealerships, and he was later employed as a
1515 correctional officer, working at the Billy Moore Correctional
1616 Center and the Rusk County Sheriff's Department for a total of 22
1717 years until his retirement in 2017; and
1818 WHEREAS, A proud military veteran, Mr. Strong was active
1919 with the VFW and served his chapter as chaplain; he was a member
2020 of the security team at the Bar None Cowboy Church, where he also
2121 took part in the Friday morning Bible study group; in his leisure
2222 time, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and following the car
2323 market; and
2424 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Strong benefited from
2525 the love and support of his wife, Sue, and the couple shared a
2626 rewarding marriage that spanned 52 years; he was the proud father
2727 of a son, Jeff; and
2828 WHEREAS, Roy Strong lived a rich and purposeful life devoted
2929 to his country, his community, and his faith, and those he leaves
3030 behind will forever cherish their memories of this kind and caring
3131 man; now, therefore, be it
3232 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3333 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy M. Strong
3434 Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family: to his wife, Sue
3535 Strong; to his son, Jeff Strong; to his sister, Martha McDougal,
3636 and her husband, Mac; to his niece, Amanda Jones, and her
3737 husband, Keith, and their children, Dylon and Gavyn; to his
3838 cousins, Terry Whitaker, Donna Lewis, Karen Rasberry, Wayne
3939 Summers, and Gloria Lee Whitaker; and to his other relatives and
4040 many friends; and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4343 this day, it do so in memory of Roy Strong.
