SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 74 In Memory of Roy M. Strong Jr. WHEREAS, Family and friends are mourning the loss of Roy M. Strong Jr. of Henderson, who died on January 4, 2021, at the age of 74; and WHEREAS, Roy Strong was born in Marshall on December 14, 1946, to Roy Strong Sr. and Nell Whitaker Grubenman, and he grew up in Tatum and in Houston with his sister, Martha; and WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty, Mr. Strong served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1968; returning to civilian life, he worked for a time as a parts manager for several car dealerships, and he was later employed as a correctional officer, working at the Billy Moore Correctional Center and the Rusk County Sheriff's Department for a total of 22 years until his retirement in 2017; and WHEREAS, A proud military veteran, Mr. Strong was active with the VFW and served his chapter as chaplain; he was a member of the security team at the Bar None Cowboy Church, where he also took part in the Friday morning Bible study group; in his leisure time, he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and following the car market; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Strong benefited from the love and support of his wife, Sue, and the couple shared a rewarding marriage that spanned 52 years; he was the proud father of a son, Jeff; and WHEREAS, Roy Strong lived a rich and purposeful life devoted to his country, his community, and his faith, and those he leaves behind will forever cherish their memories of this kind and caring man; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Roy M. Strong Jr. and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family: to his wife, Sue Strong; to his son, Jeff Strong; to his sister, Martha McDougal, and her husband, Mac; to his niece, Amanda Jones, and her husband, Keith, and their children, Dylon and Gavyn; to his cousins, Terry Whitaker, Donna Lewis, Karen Rasberry, Wayne Summers, and Gloria Lee Whitaker; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Roy Strong.
