SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 78 WHEREAS, Dale Lunsford, president of LeTourneau University in Longview, has been appointed to a new role as chancellor of the institution; and WHEREAS, Named president in 2007, Dr. Lunsford has overseen the launch of a number of academic programs, among them nursing, civil engineering, and cybersecurity at the undergraduate level and engineering, psychology, and counseling at the graduate level; in addition, he has brought many improvements to the LeTourneau campus; in 2009, the Paul & Betty Abbott Aviation Center and Corner Café student dining hall opened; the Kielhorn Materials Joining Laboratory has been expanded, and new facilities include South Hall, a 200-bed residence, as well as the Allen Family Student Center and Joyce Family Athletic Village; and WHEREAS, Dr. Lunsford has served on the boards of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities; benefiting the wider community, he is a director of Texas Bank and Trust and East Texas Communities Foundation; and WHEREAS, Previously, Dr. Lunsford served as a vice president of The University of Texas at Tyler, and he is a former academic journal editor and visiting scholar at The University of Texas McCombs School of Business; early in his 35-year career in higher education, he was a business professor, associate dean, and director of undergraduate programs for the Collins College of Business at the University of Tulsa, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees; he completed his doctoral degree in business administration at Oklahoma State University; and WHEREAS, Through his adept and forward-looking leadership, Dale Lunsford has greatly advanced the mission of LeTourneau University, and as he takes on his new responsibilities, he may reflect with pride on his accomplishments to date; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, hereby congratulate Dale Lunsford on his appointment as chancellor of LeTourneau University and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Dr. Lunsford as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
