55 R E S O L U T I O N
66 WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas
77 have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and
88 workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives
99 in the pandemic was Harold Smith, a dedicated and well-respected
1010 correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice,
1111 who passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 77; and
1212 WHEREAS, Officer Smith was a valued member of the staff of the
1313 Jordan Unit for five and a half years; a dedicated public servant,
1414 he joined the Department of Criminal Justice following his
1515 retirement as an inspector with the Texas Department of
1616 Transportation; and
1717 WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Smith took great pride in
1818 his four children and seven grandchildren and loved to spend time
1919 with them; an active individual, he benefited youth in the town of
2020 Panhandle as a scoutmaster for Troop 501, and in his free time, he
2121 loved to read about railroads; he was a great conversationalist and
2222 a good listener as well, qualities that never failed to brighten the
2323 workday for his colleagues; and
2424 WHEREAS, Harold Smith faithfully and ably performed his
2525 duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal
2626 Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all
2727 who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
2828 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2929 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
3030 Harold Smith and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends,
3131 and colleagues; and, be it further
3232 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3333 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
3434 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold
3535 Smith.
