6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The thousands of deaths caused by COVID-19 in Texas |
---|
7 | 7 | | have created a tremendous void in families, communities, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | workplaces throughout the state; among those who lost their lives |
---|
9 | 9 | | in the pandemic was Harold Smith, a dedicated and well-respected |
---|
10 | 10 | | correctional officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, |
---|
11 | 11 | | who passed away on December 15, 2020, at the age of 77; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Officer Smith was a valued member of the staff of the |
---|
13 | 13 | | Jordan Unit for five and a half years; a dedicated public servant, |
---|
14 | 14 | | he joined the Department of Criminal Justice following his |
---|
15 | 15 | | retirement as an inspector with the Texas Department of |
---|
16 | 16 | | Transportation; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Devoted to his family, Mr. Smith took great pride in |
---|
18 | 18 | | his four children and seven grandchildren and loved to spend time |
---|
19 | 19 | | with them; an active individual, he benefited youth in the town of |
---|
20 | 20 | | Panhandle as a scoutmaster for Troop 501, and in his free time, he |
---|
21 | 21 | | loved to read about railroads; he was a great conversationalist and |
---|
22 | 22 | | a good listener as well, qualities that never failed to brighten the |
---|
23 | 23 | | workday for his colleagues; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Harold Smith faithfully and ably performed his |
---|
25 | 25 | | duties throughout his tenure with the Texas Department of Criminal |
---|
26 | 26 | | Justice, and he will long be remembered with great admiration by all |
---|
27 | 27 | | who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
29 | 29 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
30 | 30 | | Harold Smith and extend deepest sympathy to his family, friends, |
---|
31 | 31 | | and colleagues; and, be it further |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
33 | 33 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
34 | 34 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Harold |
---|
35 | 35 | | Smith. |
