| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 3 | 3 | | recognize the interpreters who have risked their lives to serve |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | as allies of the United States Armed Forces in Afghanistan; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, When our nation sent its sons and daughters to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, it enlisted a second army to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | support the fight against global terrorism; these local allies in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Afghanistan signed on to help build bases, support troops, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | perhaps most importantly, to serve as interpreters; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Interpreters serve as the cultural and linguistic |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | bridge that allows members of the armed forces to communicate |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | with locals and better understand their surroundings; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, United States troops would not be able to perform |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | their jobs in foreign lands without the assistance of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | interpreters, and many of our troops are alive today because of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | their courageous service; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The brave interpreters who have risked their |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | lives to join the global war on terrorism are indeed deserving of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | special recognition for their distinguished service on behalf of |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | the United States Armed Forces; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | interpreters in Afghanistan who followed the call to fight |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | against terrorism and extend to them sincere gratitude for their |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | heroic service; and, be it further |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
