SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 34 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the interpreters who have risked their lives to serve as allies of the United States Armed Forces in Afghanistan; and WHEREAS, When our nation sent its sons and daughters to fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, it enlisted a second army to support the fight against global terrorism; these local allies in Afghanistan signed on to help build bases, support troops, and perhaps most importantly, to serve as interpreters; and WHEREAS, Interpreters serve as the cultural and linguistic bridge that allows members of the armed forces to communicate with locals and better understand their surroundings; and WHEREAS, United States troops would not be able to perform their jobs in foreign lands without the assistance of interpreters, and many of our troops are alive today because of their courageous service; and WHEREAS, The brave interpreters who have risked their lives to join the global war on terrorism are indeed deserving of special recognition for their distinguished service on behalf of the United States Armed Forces; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby commend all those interpreters in Afghanistan who followed the call to fight against terrorism and extend to them sincere gratitude for their heroic service; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
