                            SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4
 In Memory
 of
 Roel Garcia
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins Texans
 across the state in paying tribute to the late Roel Garcia on the
 occasion of the dedication of the Corporal Roel Garcia Memorial
 Highway; and
 WHEREAS, A highly respected trooper with the Texas
 Department of Public Safety, Corporal Garcia was en route to
 Raymondville to participate with a drug task force when he
 tragically lost his life on March 26, 1997, at the age of 37; a
 native of Falfurrias, he joined the Department of Public Safety
 in June of 1981, and he served the people of Texas with
 distinction for nearly 16 years; and
 WHEREAS, Over the course of his distinguished career, he
 earned numerous letters of commendation, and he was the recipient
 of a Director's Citation for his exceptional work on 20 drug
 interdiction cases in 1993; he was also a valued instructor in
 the department's specialized schools; and
 WHEREAS, In recognition of his service and sacrifice, the
 Texas Senate passed Senate Bill 228 in 2019, which designated a
 section of U.S. Highway 281 in Brooks County as the Corporal Roel
 Garcia Memorial Highway; and
 WHEREAS, Corporal Roel Garcia was devoted to his family and
 was an outstanding law enforcement officer who lost his life in
 service to the people of Texas; it is truly fitting that he be
 recognized for his contributions to the state and his dedication
 to his work as a trooper; now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
 Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby honor the life and legacy
 of Corporal Roel Garcia on the occasion of the dedication of the
 Corporal Roel Garcia Memorial Highway; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
 honor of this special occasion.
