5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
---|
6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Vida Marcet, who died December 7, 2020, |
---|
7 | 7 | | at the age of 71; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Vida Marcet was born on February 11, 1949, in |
---|
9 | 9 | | Mexico City; she enjoyed an idyllic childhood and developed |
---|
10 | 10 | | passions for art, music, culture, and education before going on |
---|
11 | 11 | | to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from the National |
---|
12 | 12 | | Autonomous University of Morelos; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, She had a distinguished career as an educator; she |
---|
14 | 14 | | first served as an elementary education and kindergarten |
---|
15 | 15 | | teacher, and later, she was an administrator with Mexico's |
---|
16 | 16 | | federal education agency; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, She married Arnold Garcia Jr. of Austin in 2008, |
---|
18 | 18 | | and she was deeply devoted to her adopted family, especially her |
---|
19 | 19 | | stepchildren and step-grandchildren, who were a source of much |
---|
20 | 20 | | pride and joy for her; she particularly enjoyed family vacations |
---|
21 | 21 | | to locales across the country and around the world; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, After her move to Texas, she quickly began to |
---|
23 | 23 | | treasure the state, and she took great pleasure in such |
---|
24 | 24 | | traditions as country and Tejano music, chicken fried steak, and |
---|
25 | 25 | | Tex-Mex cuisine; she was an avid participant in the Celebrate |
---|
26 | 26 | | Texas events surrounding March 2; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Vida was a woman of warmth, grace, and generosity |
---|
28 | 28 | | who gave unselfishly to others; she will long be remembered for |
---|
29 | 29 | | her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest, and she leaves |
---|
30 | 30 | | behind memories that will be cherished forever by all who were |
---|
31 | 31 | | privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
33 | 33 | | Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
34 | 34 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Vida Marcet; and, be it |
---|
35 | 35 | | further |
---|
36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
37 | 37 | | her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
38 | 38 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
