SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44 In Memory of Vida Marcet WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and commemorates the life of Vida Marcet, who died December 7, 2020, at the age of 71; and WHEREAS, Vida Marcet was born on February 11, 1949, in Mexico City; she enjoyed an idyllic childhood and developed passions for art, music, culture, and education before going on to earn undergraduate and graduate degrees from the National Autonomous University of Morelos; and WHEREAS, She had a distinguished career as an educator; she first served as an elementary education and kindergarten teacher, and later, she was an administrator with Mexico's federal education agency; and WHEREAS, She married Arnold Garcia Jr. of Austin in 2008, and she was deeply devoted to her adopted family, especially her stepchildren and step-grandchildren, who were a source of much pride and joy for her; she particularly enjoyed family vacations to locales across the country and around the world; and WHEREAS, After her move to Texas, she quickly began to treasure the state, and she took great pleasure in such traditions as country and Tejano music, chicken fried steak, and Tex-Mex cuisine; she was an avid participant in the Celebrate Texas events surrounding March 2; and WHEREAS, Vida was a woman of warmth, grace, and generosity who gave unselfishly to others; she will long be remembered for her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest, and she leaves behind memories that will be cherished forever by all who were privileged to share in her life; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 1st Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Vida Marcet; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vida Marcet.
