45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
67 of Carl James Cahill Jr. of Sonora, who passed away on June 4, 2021,
78 at the age of 78; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of Wanda and Carl Cahill, Jimmy Cahill was
910 born on May 29, 1943, and grew up with the companionship of a
1011 sister, Diana; he graduated from Sonora High School in 1961, and he
1112 went on to attend Texas Tech University, where he earned a degree in
1213 business administration in 1966; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill enjoyed a successful career working for
1415 Carl J. Cahill, Inc., his father's oil field construction company;
1516 he eventually took over the business, and under his able
1617 leadership, the company served countless ranchers and oilmen
1718 throughout Texas; and
1819 WHEREAS, A skilled entrepreneur, Mr. Cahill contributed
1920 immeasurably to the vitality and economic well-being of Sonora; he
2021 supported local mohair producers by founding Sonora Mohair &
2122 Company and Ol' Sonora Trading Company, and he created I-10
2223 Magazine to promote area businesses; in addition, he helped
2324 organize Covered Wagon Dinner Theater at the Caverns of Sonora, and
2425 he served on the board of the Eaton Hill Nature Center and Preserve;
2526 and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. Cahill was married to the former Ruthie Shafer
2728 for 43 years until her passing in 2010; fortunate enough to find
2829 love again, he shared a fulfilling relationship of 11 years with his
2930 second wife, Linda Cahill; he was the devoted father of two
3031 children, Kelly and Chacho, and he took great pride in his
3132 grandchildren, Rebeckah, Reagan, Gage, Lane, and Carson; he also
3233 had the pleasure of welcoming into his family a stepdaughter, Amy
3334 Love Sykes, and her children; and
3435 WHEREAS, In his leisure time, Mr. Cahill enjoyed ranching,
3536 hunting, and fishing, as well as following Sonora Broncos football
3637 and watching horse races; he held a deep appreciation for history,
3738 and he gave numerous historical tours of Sonora and Sutton County;
3839 and
3940 WHEREAS, Jimmy Cahill lived a life that was rich in personal
4041 and professional achievements, and he will forever be a source of
4142 inspiration to those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
4243 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4344 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4445 of Carl James Cahill Jr. and extend sincere condolences to his loved
4546 ones; and, be it further
4647 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4748 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4849 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jimmy
4950 Cahill.
