| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Eastland Memorial Hospital is hosting its annual |

| 6 | 7 | | gala on September 11, 2021, and this event offers a welcome |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | opportunity to pay tribute to the hospital's unique legacy; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, From the very beginning, the hospital was a |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | community effort, built from the foundation up by area residents, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | including lawyers, merchants, and ministers as well as plumbers and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | electricians, who volunteered to work after hours for no pay, only |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | coffee and doughnuts; with no government funding, the facility was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | built in nine months at a cost of $36,112, with many of the |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | materials contributed by donors; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The first patient was an eight-and-a-half-pound |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | baby boy, and the hospital's grand opening on June 8, 1953, was |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | attended by some 2,000 people; approved by the American Medical |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Association as well as by other state and national hospital |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | associations, Eastland Memorial has grown over the years into a |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | regional institution, and the Eastland Memorial Hospital District |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | was created in 1989; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Today, the hospital is overseen by a nine-member |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | board of directors, and six local physicians make up the executive |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | medical staff, while another 35 consultant and courtesy staff |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | physicians provide expertise in neurology, cardiology, urology, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | oncology, gastroenterology, and other specialties; it offers a |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | comprehensive range of services, including a Level IV trauma |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | emergency room, surgical services, an acute care unit, outpatient |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | specialty clinics, a pharmacy, a dialysis center, and a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | rehabilitation and wellness center; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, For nearly 70 years, countless residents of Eastland |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | County and the surrounding area have depended on the care provided |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | at Eastland Memorial Hospital, and it is a privilege to join in |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | recognizing the vital role this long-standing institution has |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | played in the community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the annual gala |

| 38 | 39 | | of Eastland Memorial Hospital and extend to all those associated |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | with the hospital sincere best wishes for continued success with |

| 40 | 41 | | their important work; and, be it further |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |

| 42 | 43 | | prepared for Eastland Memorial Hospital as an expression of high |
