H.R. No. 70 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Eastland Memorial Hospital is hosting its annual gala on September 11, 2021, and this event offers a welcome opportunity to pay tribute to the hospital's unique legacy; and WHEREAS, From the very beginning, the hospital was a community effort, built from the foundation up by area residents, including lawyers, merchants, and ministers as well as plumbers and electricians, who volunteered to work after hours for no pay, only coffee and doughnuts; with no government funding, the facility was built in nine months at a cost of $36,112, with many of the materials contributed by donors; and WHEREAS, The first patient was an eight-and-a-half-pound baby boy, and the hospital's grand opening on June 8, 1953, was attended by some 2,000 people; approved by the American Medical Association as well as by other state and national hospital associations, Eastland Memorial has grown over the years into a regional institution, and the Eastland Memorial Hospital District was created in 1989; and WHEREAS, Today, the hospital is overseen by a nine-member board of directors, and six local physicians make up the executive medical staff, while another 35 consultant and courtesy staff physicians provide expertise in neurology, cardiology, urology, oncology, gastroenterology, and other specialties; it offers a comprehensive range of services, including a Level IV trauma emergency room, surgical services, an acute care unit, outpatient specialty clinics, a pharmacy, a dialysis center, and a rehabilitation and wellness center; and WHEREAS, For nearly 70 years, countless residents of Eastland County and the surrounding area have depended on the care provided at Eastland Memorial Hospital, and it is a privilege to join in recognizing the vital role this long-standing institution has played in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commemorate the annual gala of Eastland Memorial Hospital and extend to all those associated with the hospital sincere best wishes for continued success with their important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Eastland Memorial Hospital as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
