H.R. No. 106 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Each year, Mount Olive Baptist Church in Arlington hosts its Unity in the Community citywide worship service; and WHEREAS, First held in 2017, Unity in the Community brings together Arlington residents of all denominations and walks of life for a night of fellowship and music; proceeds from the event benefit local charitable organizations; and WHEREAS, Mount Olive Baptist has served the Arlington community since 1897, when a small group of Black Tarrant County residents founded the church at its original location on Indiana Street; in order to meet the needs of a growing membership, the congregation moved to its current house of worship on West Sanford Street in 1989, and in the decades since, the church has expanded to include a day care center, a Christian academy, a federal credit union, and Arlington New Beginnings, a housing community for the elderly; and WHEREAS, The congregation's citywide worship service provides an opportunity for area Texans to join together on a special occasion of fellowship, unity, and hope for our common future, and all those who help make this worthwhile endeavor possible are indeed deserving of recognition for their dedicated efforts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the annual Mount Olive Baptist Church Unity in the Community event and extend to everyone in attendance sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable gathering; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mount Olive Baptist Church as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
