55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with
66 the passing of Charles Allen Hicks on September 14, 2021, at the
77 age of 90; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Haskell and Era Hicks, Charles Hicks
99 was born in Mills County on March 13, 1931, and he grew up with
1010 the companionship of three siblings, Walter, Gayle, and Annette;
1111 after graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air
1212 Force, working as an air police officer in downtown San Antonio
1313 and then in security services at Kelly Air Force Base before his
1414 discharge in 1959; and
1515 WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was subsequently employed with
1616 McCullough Tool Company in Odessa until 1961, when he embarked on
1717 a long and rewarding career with the Cosden Refinery in Big
1818 Spring; over the course of his 27-year tenure, he helped operate
1919 the fluid catalytic cracking unit and served as a pump mechanic;
2020 following his retirement in 1988, he returned to Mills County and
2121 raised cattle on his ranch on the Colorado River; he was also
2222 active in his community as a member of the Mills County American
2323 Legion and Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood; and
2424 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hicks benefited from
2525 the love and support of his wife, LaQuita, with whom he shared a
2626 fulfilling marriage that spanned nearly seven decades; he took
2727 great pride in their children, Denise, Patricia, and Charla, and
2828 with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his
2929 family 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and
3030 WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his
3131 country, Charles Hicks earned the lasting respect and admiration
3232 of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3434 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
3535 of Charles Allen Hicks and extend sincere condolences to all who
3636 mourn his passing; and, be it further
3737 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3838 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
3939 this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hicks.
