5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with |
---|
6 | 6 | | the passing of Charles Allen Hicks on September 14, 2021, at the |
---|
7 | 7 | | age of 90; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Haskell and Era Hicks, Charles Hicks |
---|
9 | 9 | | was born in Mills County on March 13, 1931, and he grew up with |
---|
10 | 10 | | the companionship of three siblings, Walter, Gayle, and Annette; |
---|
11 | 11 | | after graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air |
---|
12 | 12 | | Force, working as an air police officer in downtown San Antonio |
---|
13 | 13 | | and then in security services at Kelly Air Force Base before his |
---|
14 | 14 | | discharge in 1959; and |
---|
15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was subsequently employed with |
---|
16 | 16 | | McCullough Tool Company in Odessa until 1961, when he embarked on |
---|
17 | 17 | | a long and rewarding career with the Cosden Refinery in Big |
---|
18 | 18 | | Spring; over the course of his 27-year tenure, he helped operate |
---|
19 | 19 | | the fluid catalytic cracking unit and served as a pump mechanic; |
---|
20 | 20 | | following his retirement in 1988, he returned to Mills County and |
---|
21 | 21 | | raised cattle on his ranch on the Colorado River; he was also |
---|
22 | 22 | | active in his community as a member of the Mills County American |
---|
23 | 23 | | Legion and Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood; and |
---|
24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hicks benefited from |
---|
25 | 25 | | the love and support of his wife, LaQuita, with whom he shared a |
---|
26 | 26 | | fulfilling marriage that spanned nearly seven decades; he took |
---|
27 | 27 | | great pride in their children, Denise, Patricia, and Charla, and |
---|
28 | 28 | | with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his |
---|
29 | 29 | | family 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his |
---|
31 | 31 | | country, Charles Hicks earned the lasting respect and admiration |
---|
32 | 32 | | of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
34 | 34 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
35 | 35 | | of Charles Allen Hicks and extend sincere condolences to all who |
---|
36 | 36 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
---|
38 | 38 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
---|
39 | 39 | | this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hicks. |
