SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 54 In Memory of Charles Hicks WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the passing of Charles Allen Hicks on September 14, 2021, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, The son of Haskell and Era Hicks, Charles Hicks was born in Mills County on March 13, 1931, and he grew up with the companionship of three siblings, Walter, Gayle, and Annette; after graduating from Odessa High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force, working as an air police officer in downtown San Antonio and then in security services at Kelly Air Force Base before his discharge in 1959; and WHEREAS, Mr. Hicks was subsequently employed with McCullough Tool Company in Odessa until 1961, when he embarked on a long and rewarding career with the Cosden Refinery in Big Spring; over the course of his 27-year tenure, he helped operate the fluid catalytic cracking unit and served as a pump mechanic; following his retirement in 1988, he returned to Mills County and raised cattle on his ranch on the Colorado River; he was also active in his community as a member of the Mills County American Legion and Austin Avenue Church of Christ in Brownwood; and WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hicks benefited from the love and support of his wife, LaQuita, with whom he shared a fulfilling marriage that spanned nearly seven decades; he took great pride in their children, Denise, Patricia, and Charla, and with the passing years, he had the pleasure of welcoming into his family 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Deeply dedicated to his family, his faith, and his country, Charles Hicks earned the lasting respect and admiration of all who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Allen Hicks and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charles Hicks.
